55 F100 Stock Steering Rebuild
While I have the entire front of my truck striped down to frame, steering, and suspension, I am installing Toyota PS. Before I stripped it down it was VERY hard to steer. The steering box might have just been badly worn, but I want to be sure I've eliminated any other steering issues, while I'm at it.
Which other parts should I simply replace without inspection... (all current parts are original)?
Regarding kingpins, I've heard folks say to jack up, place one hand at top and bottom of tire, and try to detect play by wobbling top/bottom. Is "No Play" the only acceptable result, or should I expect some very small amount of play?
Believe it or not, I tried several searches to find a thread on these, as I would expect them to exist... didn't have any luck.
Thanks!

You need to discern whether play is in the wheel bearing or the kingpin. Best to tighten the bearings so there is no play first (don't over-do it). I've had best luck laying underneath, where I can see the kingpin and knuckle. If you can see more than just a jiggle, it's kingpin time.
Did you pump grease into the kingpin bushings before, when it was hard to turn?
