4 in lift steering issue

My boy did a complete rebuild of a 92 f150 4x4. Put a 4 in suspension lift in the front. Dropped the radius arms.as well as the front axle. The problem we have is on some bumps in the road the front end behaves wildly to the point we have had to come to a complete stop. Also added a pitman arm drop. Bought the drop kit on ebay so it's not a name brand . Directions were terrible. Has anyone ran across this?

Did you remove your sway bars, front and back, or are they still intact?

Could be a big part of your problem.

Bad tie rod ends. The lift put them at a different angle and amplified the worn spots. This happened to me on an F250 I did a few years ago.

I will check the local junk yards and get one. I am wondering if two steering dampers would help also

^^^What he said. Looks like it was an option. If it has towing package it should have them. See link:https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...c-request.html

"I am wondering if two steering dampers would help also." Couldn't hurt. The better your suspension, the less handling problems you'll have to worry about later.

Dampers will help a little, but may cost more (good ones, anyway) than all new steering joints and that's the important parts.

Check the bolts that mount the steering box to the frame. Also consider going ahead and replacing that last tie rod.

Is the suspension pretty soft? Ford's steering setup for the TTB has terrible bump steer. The softer the suspension, the more travel you'll get, and the worse the bump steer will be.

Make sure the pitman arm is the correct drop for your suspension and obviously make sure everything is in good working order. If the kit is really chinntzy, you might even be getting brackets flexing around on you.

Also, did you replace the TTB pivot bushings? They can let a lot of play into the system.

No, we didn't replace pivot bushings. I am not wondering if the axle drop kit is not flexing also. Front end is pretty stiff. Running pro comp springs and shocks. I just noticed gear box is leaking so that will be replaced soon.
