1999 F-350 V10 4x4 transmission trouble

So I pulled a 27' TT all day 400 miles. Get home with it no problems. Us low range to make it easier to manover the trailer into place. The last motion was backing where the trailer to it's resting place. Unhook, place transfer back into high, transmission in to drive and it won't move. I could rev engine up and it would somewhat engage. Works fine in reverse. Messed with tranfer case lever and things change but not correct. Anyone I talk to has never heard of problem.

I've heard of it. It's called reverse works, no drive.

There are a couple things that could have happened. If you're lucky the feed bolts under the valve body have worked loose and need to be tightened. If you're not lucky the forward clutch is toast and the trans needs to be rebuilt.

If you want to tackle the feed bolts drop the pan and the valve body. You'll see three bolts with holes in them. They feed pressure from the valve body to the clutch. If they get loose the pressure doesn't make it to the clutch. If all of them are tight when you get to them, then it's the clutch.

Same thing again

That was some time ago. I went ahead and took it to a transmission guy. He said it needed rebuilding. 3200 dollars and 5000 miles the same thing happened again. After being in 4x4 and going back to 2x4. It is manual shift. It seems its something to do with shifting from 4 wheel to 2 wheel. Fluid is perfectly red.

Just curious, did you try Mark's recommendation last time or this time? Sounds like the same rules apply here if it's doing the same thing. It's no unheard of for valve body bolts to loosen up. Other than that I have had my transfer case be pretty hard at times to get back into gear. A friend of mine used to pretty much stand on his pushing it forward with his foot to get it back into 2high.

Not checked yet

Haven't had a chance to yet. It's in the mud so I was waiting on it to dry up a little. I plan on it this weekend.
