Thoughts On All New 2017 Super Duty

I would like to hear on your thoughts on the all new 2017 Super duty. I personally do not like the look. How about that frame withstanding the f150's trucks and dumptruck? The use of aluminum?Engine wise I personally would rule out that V10 for a V8 with bigger pistons. I also noticed that the cabs are the same on all F-Series not like previous years where they were different on super duties and f150's

Front end is a bit busy but it is growing on me.

Otherwise I like what they have done. I think the sharing of the cab is a benefit. It is bigger on the inside they the old configuration.

I really like the truck overall. The cab sharing is smart and beneficial to the customer. The use of aluminum is smart. The front end in my opinion is the best looking since 1999.

Previous superduty trucks seem to me that they sit very level from front to back or even a little lower in the rear, i don't like that look at all. I like some rake from the front to the rear and the 2017 seems to sit up nicely in the back, that's a good thing, IMHO.

I really don't like the angular look on the mirrors, I like the current gen big mirrors.

I would like to have seen a third engine option for the 250's and 350's, perhaps a GTDI set up. Something unique to the superduty trucks.

If I were in the market for a heavier truck, I'd be all over this one like scales on a fish.

Sounds like a lot of improvements were made.

I love the look if it weren't for the hideous, humongous, stacked headlights. You can't put big enough tires on to get those into proportion.

I think the front end is pretty ugly. The rest of it looks like a truck.

The F150 interior is nice. The trailer features are nice, though I think I'd prefer the F150's backup assist over the SD one. Cameras are nice. Wish they were offering the new 3.5 from the 2017 Raptor and the 10-speed transmission.

It's more truck than I would ever need. The F150 is more truck than I need. The only reason I might consider it is the added trailer features and integrated up fitter switches. I might go drive the current generation just to see how they differ in ride, but it would be long odds on me buying one.

I agree the front end is busy but growing on me too. I don't care for the top angle on the mirrors. Not a big fan of the plaques either. The rest of the truck looks great.

The cab sharing was an absolute must. Ford needs a way to control the escalating costs of the Super Duty and this will help.

Aluminum is a VERY GOOD thing. It will help reduce the weight and more importantly to me the rust. My 2000 is a rust bucket. It needs a new bed (short bed take-offs are around $3k) and repairs done to the doors (probably another $1k) if I want to keep it.

I like the new tech, optional folding running boards, boxed frame and just about everything else.

I can't wait to see and go through it in person.

Only real appearance thing I hate is the new style badge. Didn't like the grille at first but not so bad after watching some clips. I am a little leery of the lane warning system, I just see it doing a lot of shaking and beeping for no reason if you get too close, as the truck see's it, to a line. I like all the camera options as well as the AL body, fully boxed frame and cab sharing with F150.

I will be in the market for a new truck sooner rather than later and after watching some of the video's on the '17 I think I will wait for them before buying. Only question will be will the '17 buyers be screwed by a 8 or 10 spd tranny in the '18s or some kind of eco boost option that year. Hopefully they won't pull a 2010 Mustang and have only one year of updated body before new engines and create an orphan truck.

We have it on our Lincoln, works well. Can be turned off or on. I sees the lines in the road. Shakes the steering wheel if you can too close to the line.

I am not good with photoshop, but this would be a HUGE improvement;

I would also move the bumper up, at least sweeping up in the area below the headlights.

I had been waiting a long time for this truck to arrive, but damn I hate those headlights.

I agree the headlights don't look to super duty, nor does the front grill! I think the F150 front looks Super, compared to the GMC/Chevy front now headed for 2017 SD production. But it will grow on some.

F150 frames are different than the F250-350 frames, and they are different than the F450-550 frames (Except the F450 pickup, they use the F350 pickup frame) The use of aluminum is a good thing. It is stronger, more dent resistant, and lighter in the thickness being used. The V10 is only being used in the Cab & Chassis 450/550, and that won't change any time soon. Your last question about cab sharing: Yes the F150 had a different cab from 1997. That was because Ford wanted to down size and improve the Aerodynamics of the F150 for mileage. Now that the F150 gets great mileage, Ford decided to increase the F150 cab size so it can be used in all full size trucks. A smart move for Ford. It helps them achieve the "One Ford" goal. More years of Ford truck shared cabs between class 1 to class 3 (and above) than didn't. That only started in 97. Shared cabs were used for about 80 years before that.

but but but, people are worried that if others think their cab is the same size as an F-150.

I don't like the fact that the trucks are now longer and the bed rails are taller. My current truck sits too tall as it is. I had to lower my fiver as low as possible to get it under 13'6". This makes the fiver with in about 5 1/2" of the bed rails. A '17 would reduce that clearance to the point that I would end up hitting my bed rails when driving over rough terrain.
If not just the bed rails but the whole truck is 1 1/2" taller then it wouldn't even fit into my 7' garage door opening. My current truck clears it by 1/2" or so. Also not sure that the extra length will fit either. I am sure not going to park a $70k truck outside. I was also disappointed in that we didn't get a 8 speed or 10 speed tranny and a 5.0 TT as options. I also wanted to see more weight savings and thus better fuel economy. I see that the frame needed strengthening but no reason to make the front end and rear end stronger. If you need more strength for payload get a F450. What they should have done is spent their time on eliminating the bump steer from crappy roads. I see no reason to trade for a 2017.

Nothing a little drop wouldn't fix.
