Hood Stack

Does anybody know the legalities of hood stacks in Montana? I am aware of laws in other states such as Texas and Colorado but I could not find anything about Montana. Feel free to have a look at http://leg.mt.gov/bills/mca_toc/61_9_4.htm I looked and found a little bit about exhaust noise and mufflers but nothing else. Any help would be appreciated!

Well, if a muffler is required then a hood stack is pretty much ruled out, unless you go the Clarkson route-

It is possible to argue the turbo as a muffling device though! Just gotta get the right cop to back you up if you run into trouble

Cops tend to stick together, not defend you against another. Mack used to run turbos with "silencer" cast into the housing to work along those lines, I haven't seen a mufflerless semi come from the factory since.
Besides this, it also creates a blind spot, and most states have a law to the general effect of "the exhaust must exit to the side or rear of the enclosed portion of the body", which this does neither.

Please don't put a hood stack on your ford. Your better then that. It only tells people your excited about your new boyfriend. Its the same as tow mirrors flipped up on a dodge not towing anything. You can get the same amount of flow out of a straight 4" exhaust properly tucked out the pass side under the truck, or at the very back. Hood stacks will also obscure your vision on the passenger side, by the obvious pipe itself blocking your view and the soot collecting on your windshield . Unless your racing the truck on a track only, it doesn't look cool, it gives diesels a bad name, and its pointless.
