Crimping battery wires

So I bought a 06 f150 4.7l for parts (runs but body is finished) only problem is the previous owner (my wife's brother) cut the battery terminals off so obviously i can't plug the battery in. I ordered some new ones which should be in in 2 weeks or so. Now the problem is I need to move the truck by tommorow or else its getting towed away. I was wondering if for a temporary fix (literally 5 km) if i could crimp some wires together on it (2 gauge) and then put some other terminals in the end. Would that work or not? Sorry for my bad english.

Thank you

Have it towed by hire to the place where you want it to, the other guys will charge you impound fees, right?

What will it cost when they tow it away? Impound fees? It will cost less if you do it yourself.

565$ with impound fees. I paid 300$ for the whole truck, 398$/565$ is expensive for a 5km drive when you could potentially do a quick repair for like 5$. I'm just asking because i want to make sure it is do-able

Well, any auto parts store should have replacement battery terminals. Should be no problem crimping those onto wire. When was the last time the truck was running? It may not start easily if it has sat for a long time.

About 4 months ago, and yes we just don't have an auto store for 2 hours nor a walmart nor anything really. I don't mind doing the drive but if it could save me the drive to get some. Thanks for the help none the less

You can try it, it should work OK. At this point there's certainly nothing to lose.

Your English looks fine (if it's a second language, you're better than many native speakers).

The thing is, whether it's for 5km or 500km, the chance of killing yourself when hooking things up is the same.

Additionally, accidentally introducing a raging lightning storm into the engine compartment probably will not wait until km # 6 to blow something up if it's going to do so.

Invite a friend who subscribes to AAA to sit with you to wait for their free tow (they'd be covered even in your truck).

Or couldn't you make arrangements with the authorities to buy (maybe even pay for) another few days to avoid the tow?

And why did he cut the terminals off in the first place??

Thank you my first language is french! He cut them off because he needed some for his car, no auto stores here so desperate times require desperate mesures.

Regardimg the part saying introducing a lightning storm, would not that only happen if touched metal? If it were all covered with electrical tape? I know nothing in electricity, I can build a vehicle from scratch until i have to wire things myself.

I will try to see if I can find somebody with AAA thank you for the detailed answer

Oh. Wow, are you at the North Pole?! I get annoyed when my parts aren't Amazon Prime and I have to wait more than 2 days! Can't Santa's elves help fix your truck (it's his off season).

Yep... but there's a pretty good amount of metal in the engine compartment. Just sayin'.

If done properly, it should be fine. But... without the proper terminal ends on the battery posts, the wire could shake loose and that exposed end could wander around.

Some important things to know about electricity:
1) It hurts
2) It doesn't play well with fuel

If you must do this, make sure you cover the entire splice area with plenty of electrical tape, inspect the rest of the wire for any damage, and make sure that whatever you're hooking up the the battery posts is VERY secure (if not using real terminals with a nut, consider a zip tie on each post above the wire as tight as you can get it to act as a lock washer). There's no reason it shouldn't work.

Ps... maybe a good idea to make sure Jack the Ripper didn't need the brakes for his other car before you get the truck moving too fast

Good luck!

Thanks for the help! I have about 300 rolls of electrical tape that I bought for 10c each when our local sawmill shut down I'll make sure to use it!

I almost live in the north pole - amazon prime takes weeks because of my location! Its absurs havimg to drive hours every weekend to get any supplies

So you're saying (without actually saying) that the truck would be drivable if you could start it? Then by all means connect the wires and have at it!

Seen it in action several times around farms and folks on the highway at night needing to make do .... works fine as long as pos cable side is protected from ground.
