4.0 SOHC, which Timing Chain Kit is good Quality?

Hi alltogether!

I think that I need to replace the Timingchains with tensioners and guides on my '99 Explorer.

Now I'm not sure where to buy them. Ford is quite expensive, and the 70$ Kits on ebay on the other hand aren't that trusty I think.

So I looked at Rockauto.com (because they ship to germany) and found the Cloyes 90398SB Repairkit for 293,79$. It includes all chains, guides, tensioners and sprockets.

Does anyone know about the Quality of this Kit?

Or is there another good recommendation where to buy it?

Thanks in Advance!

Not sure about the Cloyes kit. Cheapo kits are a mistake.

This is a bit hard to follow, but he talks about buying this and that, including a tool kit for the job. Pulled the motor yet?

Do everything by the way. Good luck with it. I didn't jump time and quit did it? These bend valves and nick pistons when that happens and the motor is basically junk. Bad news.

Good news: The basic engine is interchangeable between pretty much all years and models. Including Mustang motors.

I Bought a Kit from CNS Automotive, we'll see if its OK. Looks like reasonable quality though.

Yesterday I began to pull the Motor out. Man, this truck is hellish! Sharp edges everywhere and not much space to work. My F250 was way better in that department...

Had to stop at 3.30pm, only 6 screws left that connect tranny and motor.
Will pull it out tomorrow morning before Work, after Christmas I get the time to do the chainjob.
In the meantime I'm riding the Ford Express
