Which oil for a '89 e350 460ci with c6 ?

Hello,
All is in the title.
Which kind of oil should I use in my 460ci engine and c6.
When should I change it ideally (I mean interval) ?
Thanks in advance for the infos.
Fred

depends on your ambient temps.

351/400/460.........

summers here we get over 30 C and I have always used 15w40 diesel oil.
winters seldom below -20C 5w30 .

I've only used oil additives on engines that were already worn out when I got them.

Thanks

Thanks for your answers.
I live in the west of France where the weather is quiet tempered.
I'm using 10w40 oil for the moment, but I will use 15w40 at the next refilling (don't know the word for oil change, sorry).
Best regards,
Fred

the 460 is a heavy duty engine, lots of 15w40 diesel oils out there to chose from. how much does gas sell for there per litre? not up to date on my Euro value but I can look it up.

cheers James

Hi James,
One liter is about 1,30 euros.
But I've made lpg installed which is less than 0,80 euro per liter.
The 460 is very impressive here in France.
My rv makes heads turn when I drive it.
Best Regards,
Fred

As pointed out, viscosity depends on outside temperature. Owners manual recommends 3 grades:
5w30 , upper limit 15 degrees C, no lower limit
15w40 Lower limit 10 degrees, no upper limit
10w30 lower limit 0 degrees, no upper limit. It is also listed as the preferred oil.
That being said, as my motorhome is used summertime only, I have been using 15w40 for about 15 years with good results.
Typically change the oil and filter every 5,000KM , or once a year; however if you are running lpg, you could probably lengthen the mileage interval with no problems.
Good luck
Jeff
