Intake question 302 EFI performance

The other discussion getting pretty full so try again. Many comments showing the truck 302 was better than the 351 stock components and better than the mustangs, generally. I have a 92 currently with speed density 5.0. Question is has there been testing to show that the newer 95 to 97 versions flowing better ? Is it worth trying to upgrade to the newer stock version ? What is needed to do that ? Computer swap ? Plumbing for intake, wiring issues ?

From what I've read and understood, your biggest restrictions will be the factory exhaust followed by the factory cam. The intake should be the last thing on the airflow problem list. Bit perhaps I interpreted the info wrong.

No they don't, the reason the '94+ motors make more power is because it has a bigger cam so that is what you need.

Ok, thanks guys. Just want to make sure I am going in right direction. Found some long tubes for the 5.0 last weekend at the local pull a part, so thinking of doing the cam and exhaust (maybe) consider the gt 40p heads on this one, then take the slow methodical approach with the 5.8. Discovered by using a laser thermometer that my 2 cats on this truck are not working, so perhaps there is some restriction there ? Here's the question on exhaust, since I may use the setup on the 5.8 later, does 2.5 single sound decent, with the long tubes ?

One other question, will I be OK with the exhaust and a cam, using stock heads with speed density setup ? Same answer if I opt to go with gt 40 heads ?

Cam swaps are OK with SD as long as the lobe centers are at least 112-114 deg. To get that you really can't get a cam with long overlap or very high lift (Over .500 inch) since the physical limitations of a cam prevent that. Both of the latter are bad for stock SD.

actually jim some may have gotten away with the 112 lob seperation but the safe bet is keeping it 114 and up. any lower and the ecu doesnt like it and the rpms will fluctuate a bunch.
