What to do about O2 sensor?

Took the cat off a buddy's 4.0 jeep, now there's no place for the lower O2 sensor to mount.

At first we left it off but that wreaked havoc on the way it ran, so we put it back on and let it hang out in open air. Now it runs good but there's a loose O2 sensor dangling around.

Should we put it back in the pipe? Leave it out? Is there a dummy that will trick the computer?

Put the converter back on and the problem is solved.
