Side Mirror help

Glad I found this site! 1st post. I recently got a 66 F100. Loving it so far. Im looking to add side view mirrors. I ordered the 5 inch round ones. My truck doesnt have the slots for the mirrors like others do. A reliable recommended body shop in Georgia would be the best route for me I think. I don't think this is something I would want to try myself. Any help on the best way to go about it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Pic below.

Hi Bruce and welcome to FTE you will get a lot of useful info here, your doors dont have a spot for mirrors? is there a rubber plug close to the fly wing of a rectangular shape. if so that is where your mirror bracket will go.

A previous owner filled in the holes, because ALL 1961/66 trucks have the door slots. A rubber plug was used to fill the slot when no mirrors were installed.

Open the doors, look inside at the front, you'll see where the mirrors once bolted on.

See parts catalog example...

What the OP is saying is, there are no slots in his truck doors. A previous owner filled in the holes.

AFAIK (and as original) the mirror brackets come with the chrome mirrors with the 5" mirror heads.

Thanx yet again; although, thought OP said he ordered the " 5 inch' round side mirrors. Suggest set the window glass on the bottom of the door and inspect how the Pre-Owner filled in the holes, may be able to remove the plugs; otherwise, may consider returning the mirrors and going another route?

Thanks for the replys. Yes a previous owner filled in the holes. I see inside the door where the mirror arm bolts on. It looks like I need some pretty precise measurements to cut new slots?

After taking the door panel off, I see where the pre-owner covered the holes. I think I need the measurement from the front edge of the door to where the slot would start. From there I could create a small hole and then be able to look into the door panel to see where I cut out the rest of the hole. it appears to be an inch or 2. Any help on this measurement would be greatly appreciated!

Establishing a reference point can be a challenge. The measurements on my 65:: *Approx. 1/2" down from the 'crease' where the main body of the door meets the vent window portion, this point is to the top of the grommet. *From the hinge side of the door, measured 1 1/2" from the edge, this point is to the center, both at the top and bottom of the grommet. *The grommet measures approx. 1 3/4" length and 7/8" wide. Word of caution, do not cut the opening to the size of the grommet, there is a lip/groove in the grommet the sheet metal opening sets inside of. If you have not purchased the grommets, strongly suggest doing so before tackling the project, should come in handy to use as a template and in determining the exact measurement. *I would probly come down 1" from reference point, and 1 1/2" from the edge to drill the hole; as you mentioned, this should provide a starting point?? Sorry, the explanation does not make any sense to me either?

If you could come up with a junk mirror arm and cut it just short of contacting the door skin and then bolt it in place and get your reference point from there might make it easier.
