Wiring and parts interchange help

Hi I just got a free 1984 F-250 with the international 6.9L diesel. It was my great grandparents and it needs some work but it will run.

I had to re-install one of the solenoids (the one on the passenger side fender wall) . When I turn the key it will get power to everything and the glow plugs will come on but it won't start... If I use a screwdriver to jump the solenoid power it will start and run. So I was wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram for both solenoids that I could use to get it running.

I am also going to change the interior from the original tan and wood grain to grey and black. So I was wondering what parts are interchangeable between other ford models and years without modifications to the interior.

Do you know if there is a clutch interlock switch on the clutch pedal? That could be part of the problem.

Probably; there is on my '85. And it's awful. You can actually push the pedal too far, to where the switch contacts open again. It's NOT on the pushrod like the later trucks. It's on this crazy Rube Goldberg ratcheting adjuster, over on the left side by the pedal. Just jumper it for now, see what happens.

Interior - any pickup or C&C with the same cab configuration, 1980-1986, will match.

I don't know but it won't even try to crank over no matter how far down the clutch is

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for both solenoids I could use for a reference on the wiring... If it's any help it took one battery hooked up and two jumper cables hooked to two other batteries then onto the one that's in the 6.9 before it even tried to crank the first time I jumped the solenoids but after it started it stayed running just fine

I was also wondering if any of the interior parts could be re-colored and look normal (rattle caned, plasti-dip, dipped, ect.) and what the parts would be and what would work best.

Thanks again!!

Those are relays. The starter solenoid is on the starter. The starter relay is on the fender near the battery. The glow plug relay is on the wheel well closer to the engine.

FIRST thing to check is whether you have voltage on the single small-terminal wire on the starter relay while holding the key in the START position. If you don't, then you could try one more jumper test. Run a jumper wire from the battery + to that small terminal on the starter. If it cranks, then the relay is good and is most likely wired correctly, and the problem is "upstream" - ignition switch, clutch switch, associated wiring.

You need two strong batteries to crank this engine. Once it starts, it uses almost zero power; the FSS is the only thing that stays energized to keep the engine running.

Do you have a diagram for the starter and glow plug relays... I had to wire them back in and the key won't start it (it's the 4spd manual tranny)
