Factory radio question...

Is it possible to swap in a different style factory radio head unit into my wife's ecoboost? Plug and play hopefully???

She has an XLT, the factory radio has sync and satellite radio, but did not come with the big screen in the dash. Hers since new has intermittently cut the drivers door speaker off. You could turn the volume up and back down and it would come back. Now it's starting on the passenger speaker. I was hoping to find a wrecked truck and use the radio out of it.

** yes we did take it back for warranty work 3 times. They kept saying they couldn't find a problem....

I'm wondering if it could have a wire that's starting to break in the door hinge. It might be worth looking at that?

I will, but didn't really think that would be it since it has done it since new.

It does sound like an issue with the OEM HU. You should be able to pull one out of another truck and put it in as long as it has sync and same model years.

I am on the fence about Sync. I like factory integration but it is clunky. If it wasn't such a chore I would like to go aftermarket and retain some of the functionality of Sync.

We really don't use SYNC much, all we really use is the satellite radio and the Bluetooth audio.

My passenger side has always done the same thing, even after replacing all the speakers with Boston Acoustic. Subscribing for info

My 2012 w/Sony does same thing with the left speaker, usually on AM band, always sounds good in FM.

Yes, Rosen makes a Ford Sync compatible unit with a large touchscreen. Your small display gets tucked up under the dash tray. Works with all steering wheel controls.
My dealer had this unit installed speculatively so it was installed when I bought the truck.

Also had the speaker problem you mention, in my case speaker replacement (in warranty) solved the problem.

I had the same speaker problem with my 08 F150. It was a faulty head unit.
