my 1994 7.3 diesel power stroke won't start after diesel filter change

Hi folks,
I changed the diesel filter in my 1994 power stroke 7.3 liters.
My fault was that I did not fill the new filter witrh diesel when I put it into the engine. So even with idling for several minutes and recharging the battery the engine will not fire.

I unscrewed the new filter and checked it for diesel. The filter is full.
I tried to inject diesel into the filter housing via the valve saying "oil". No Diesel going in.
I unplugged all diesel lines to the injectors and idled the engine for 1 minute but there is no diesel coming from the lines
I refited the diesel lines to the injectors.

and now I have no idea what to do next

Is there any trick to get the diesel to the pressure pump / the air out of the diesel pump?
Any valve which has to be unpluged to put diesel in?

you should try another forum, depending your exact year model. there is a 94 and a 94.5 forum- they should have better info for you.

Hi and welcome to FTE. I think you need to be in the other 7.3 forum to get the best help sooner. I would try to help, it is likely a priming issue, but have only worked on the 6.9 which is likely closer to your vintage of 7.3.

First let me say I do not understand how you got it to idle if it will not run.

If you have everything assembled, go find a buddy.
You hold the Schrader valve in while your buddy cranks the engine.
After diesel squirts out of the Schrader valve on you and you let go of the Schrader because you are now wet with diesel, the engine will start running and you will be a happy man again.

Scott, Tom, not sure if the OP has a '94 or a '94.5 truck, so I'm not sure if it goes here or one more forum down.

Sounds like it is an IDI. Probably needs to be moved down one more. I wish we could help but most of us are not great with those motors.

I think it is an IDI and since I responded (post 5) with what I believe is the answer to his question (I owned a similar truck 1992), I want to know how this comes out.
I tried to use a little humor at the end of the directions.
