Rear fender compatibility

Ok I have a 55 f100 that had no bed when I got it so I was just gonna order a bed kit and fenders etc. ...well I just recently got a 79 f150 in a partial trade that's only good for parts and it is a stepside, I know the bed is different but besides there being a hole in the drivers rear fender for the filler neck are the fenders the same as the ones that would be on my '55?? Thanks for any input I attached a pic of the '79 but that is not how it looks now lol the guy used it for parts so there isn't alot of it left

As far as I know, the only differences are the hole for the filler neck and the location of the running board bolt holes. (the short running boards mount about 3/4" higher on the newer truck) Both should be a fairly easy modification.

@numberdummy I saw the part numbers were the same but what was confusing me and why I asked is because like @effietrucker said the running boards are in a different spot and the filler neck hole but I didn't see anywhere with the part numbers that stated any difference in them even though I knew there were differences.. thanks guys for the input it is greatly appreciated and was the answers I was looking for

Yes that's why the part number is a 57 part number. The place where the running board bolts onto the fender on the 53-56 has a double thickness reinforcement with holes ONE ROW. The 57 and newer fenders have a double high reinforcement with 2 rows of holes only drilled in the reinforcement, you had to drill the fender for the application. Lower row 53-56 upper row 57 and newer. The new fender driver side also came with a template for the fuel filler hole to be cut for the application that used it.
