Bad gas mileage 2006 5.4

I wouldn't mind them so much if they just didn't last as long, but the real issue is that when installing a new part there's an expectation that it's not faulty out of the box.
There have been many many instances where 3 out of 8 of these cheap coils are non-functional out of the box. Many folks have wasted many hours chasing misfires that were actually introduced when using these.
Not saying it can't happen with a Motorcraft part, but historical data/collective forum experience shows that the Motorcraft version is usually reliable, whereas the cheap alternatives have a much higher DOA rate.
If the cost of using all OEM coils is prohibitive, then the cheapies are a reasonable stopgap... just know that they probably won't last as long, and that you'll need to be keenly aware that you may be introducing problems that didn't exist before and adjust your diagnostic procedures accordingly.

There are several coils on Amazon I'm not so sure if you have not read the correct reviews on the coils are purchased. At present I've got all the coils changed out and there does not exist a misfire and it has improve my performance so far. I couldn't agree more by going OEM and is probably the best way to go, but for someone that cannot afford $700 for 8 coils this would be the way to go. I bought one coil for $50 at O'Reilly Auto Parts and it did not fit they did not have the correct one but I used it anyway to get by. However Amazon does have more expensive coils that have a terrific track record if that's what you're after they even have Motorcraft if I'm not mistaken.

ACCEL 140033-8 Ignition SuperCoil Set $215 for all 8 4.5/5 stars
Motorcraft DG511 $296 for all 8 4.3/5 stars
#IC60 04-07 FORD Ignition Coil 8PCS DG511 Expedition Explorer Mustang Pick Up F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 Super Duty 04 05 06 07 $39 for all 8 4.2/5 stars
Been watching these for a while, prices stay about the same(free ship). Since my stock coils are almost 10yrs old with no issues, I will likely get the oem ones when I change them.
Getting back to the thread, would changing them help gas millage?

It has improved my mileage from 14 to 18 MPG in town but I had a misfire in a couple of cylinders. Thats the original reason I changed the coils along with a burning rich code. There is a way to hook into the on board computer with a laptop if you have the proper software and tune it for peak performance but I've only read about doing that. The computer is set up to do everything automaticly now a days. I had a plug broken off in the head and the computer disabled the ac compressor until the misfire was resolved. That's just an example of the technology of the newer vehicle's. I wish you luck and you got the hardest part of the tune up done with the plugs.

2004 F150 Lariat, First, I replaced all plugs when I bought this truck 2 years ago. Mileage was about 12.5 - 13mpg at that time.
The truck has always missed in cold weather and extreme hot weather. My milage has been getting worse by the week. I did a visual check last month and one plug was out.. Ive been having a missing issue as well as bad gas milage, lurching at about 70mph. I replaced that one plug and 3 wires which helped milage for about a month. Gas milage now 9 mpg, the best its ever been is 13. I think is should be at least 15-16. Tonight I bought 8 now platniums and 5 more plug wires which will replace all as in the last month I have replaced 3 others that tested bad for me. Plans are to remove the easy ones and replace, the ones that seem tight crack them open 1/4 turn and start the engine for about 2 minutes letting the compression and heat help loosen them up. Then spray with carbon cleaner and let sit for 30 minutes before removing. Although I did replace them about 50k miles ago it was unsettleing that one plug was out and I torqued them all good when I replaced them a year and a half ago.
Also I have replace the cam sensors and the crank sensor because other forums recommended that for simular problems. Yes the gas filter was also changed and is in the correct direction.

Well when I changed out #4 plug I left off the fuel injector electrical connection and wasn't getting any fuel, glad to report that's all that was wrong. With the reviews I've read on the coils I bought I'll probably end up buying the OEM coils in about a year. For now truck is running great.

Bad Mileage
I have a 2006 F-150 5.4 motor auto trans 4x4. My truck indicates 12.2 mpg its been this way for a long time and I'm confused why it's so bad. Everything is stock on the motor except for a K&N air filter. I have replaced the fuel pump/sending unit for a unrelated reason, cleaned the fuel injectors and put new o-rings on, I have 33's wrangler dura trac tires on it they are on the aggressive side of the all terrain tire category but nothing crazy. So if you add the 8% (because the tires are 8% bigger then stock) to the gas mileage that my dash indicates I'm getting 13.0 but still I would think I would should be getting better then that. I drive mostly on back roads and highways. If I'm on the high high for a while I might see the gas mileage go to 12.3. So I'm just looking for a way to get better mpg or if there might be something i can fix/clean to improve it. Thanks.

I am having similar issues and the common denominator is the oil based air filter. I have heard that the oil can foul the mass air flow sensor. So get air mass sensor cleaner and clean it. Make sure you don’t touch it with anything. Good luck I’ll do mine this weekend. Tim
Yup. That K&N filter is complete garbage. Remember, the more air you feed it, the more fuel you'll need to feed it. Between the K&N, the 33" tires, and the age of the truck I think 12-13 MPG is spot on. Want better mileage, put a stock paper air filter in it and go back to the stock tire size (the 33" aggressive tire are what's is really killing your mileage.
