I went by dealer the other day because it is getting louder. Me and the tech tried to chase it down. He had a stethoscope and he seems it is most noticeable around the egr. It resonates all over, but when your under passenger side it seems loudest, like the exhaust is carrying it around. Blip the throttle and it goes away until you drive it again...
Hi zeroo,
Just a reminder - my offer to assist still stands. Could you give me a rough idea of how many miles are on your truck? I'd like to get started on some options to help.

Hi IronCobra,
Do you think you could safely make a recording of the noise? That may make it a bit easier for the tech to hear. What's the current mileage on your rig?

I actually did make a recording that can only be heard wearing headphones and still being able to hear frequencies in that extremely high Hz range. I'll make a YouTube of it and see if anyone else can hear it. Truck has 980 miles on it.
Updated with YouTube video (you will need inear headphones to hear it)

Hi IronCobra,
If you'd like, I can escalate this to your regional customer service manager. They'll contact both you and your dealership to work on getting the whining noise resolved. All I need to make that happen is a PM from you with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and preferred servicing dealership.

This is a short (very bouncy-sorry) video of the fuel pump type noise that intermittently comes from my truck. This is key on, engine off.
Well, that is better news than I thought. Do you have any insight on why most of the time it is barely audible and sometimes it is very loud, like in the video?

I honestly don't. I really never put much thought into it. I've heard it on every 6.7 I've ever encountered though.
It may be a priming cycle to keep fuel pressure continuously going into the HPFP.
Vacuum leaks on the 6.7 are always a whine next time you try to find the whine noise unhook the blue squeeze connector on this vacuum hose in the picture. If the noise is a vacuum leak this will drop all vacuum and the noise will stop.
