2016 F150 New Engines?
As I continue my research I came across this article that talked about some of the new features in the 2016 F150. One being the engines.
A 2016 Ford F150 6.2-liter V8 linchpin gasoline and 5.0 liter v8 EcoBoost powertrain are the main engine options for new truck. To minimize weight and enhance performance, the new engine will be reinforced with forced induction mechanisms and excellent materials. The power is to the other parts will be transmitted using a 8-speed transmission. Torque production will be boosted by the paddle shifters and the stiff and durable crankshaft. Power production is also encouraged by an effective lithium-ion engine which will be structured to offer the best levels of voltage.

Yet other sources indicate that the engine options will be the same.
Engine options remain the same, including a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with 282 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, a 2.7-liter Ecoboost V6 with 325 HP and 375 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 with 365 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque, and a 5.0-liter V8 with 385 HP and 387 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy ranges from 18 to 22 miles per gallon.

Can anyone clarify/confirm the engine and for that matter, the transmission changed with the new 2016 F150...is there an 8 speed tranny now too?
Confused...

Someone mail-merged the top google hits for "new Ford truck engine" and "new Ford transmission" into a boiler plate article. Congrats on giving click revenue to the Chinese government by opening that link.
But hey, maybe Ford should be stalking the top search hits also. Just saying, if 5.0 EcoBoost is trending, Ford might should be listening.

It would mainly be a displacement boost for free power. You can tune a 3.5 to that level of power, but it can't work hard for long periods of time at that power level (like towing 19,000lbs). I think we'll see a 5.0, just not in the F-150, at least 250 and up.

What would a diesel add to the mix? The 2.7 is fairly comparable to the Ram 3.0 EcoDiesel, only Ford is much quicker for use as a daily driver. Why spend thousands more so you can use a hair less of more expensive fuel? Unless you're a fleet with on-site fuel that is diesel only, I simply don't see the value as more than a niche vehicle.
