Hows it going all. I have a '97 F350 dump body with 75k on the 5.8l. It's rust free and runs good, but thinking of getting some more power out of it. Just wanted to see if it was worth doing a swap. I talked to a mechanic friend and he told me I would need a harness and ecm to start. He doesn't think it's worth it, so I figured I'd ask the folks here.
Anybody out there do this swap? I have pulled motors and trannys before but just to replace with the same. Is it worth the money to do? And it's getting attached to a zf5 trans. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

 

A big block 460 will not bolt to a small block trans so you're looking at an engine and trans swap.

 

Serving suggestion: Put a stroker crank into it with 8.5 to 9 compression, leave everything else the same. You will gain low end to mid range torque. A 393 wouldn't pull like a 460 but it will pull better than a 351W.

 

I don't know where you are but if you have emission testing (like Ontario or BC) you'll find that the engine MUST be of the same year or newer to pass. It is illegal to bypass\remove emission related equipment on a newer vehicle in most every province or state.
