Trans is leaking no idea where its coming from
Hi, ignore my mispelling of my username haha
I have a 2001 f150 5.4 4x4 with the 4R70W trans. its leaking fluid from somewhere. its not the pan gasket or the seal. it seems to be coming from the top somewhere. the dipstick tube has new o-rings. and the cooler lines have been replaced and are not leaking either. i have no idea where else it could be coming from. the passenger side of the bell housing is wet with fluid. any help is appreciated

It's a continuous leak. Theres a spot where i park it. All of the cooler lines have been replaced since its got 230,000 miles. The engine block doesn't have and fluid on it just the trans. and yes it has a vent tube on top.

Looks like to me you have an issue with the gasket between the back of the transmission and the tailhousing. It may be bad. If so you have to remove the transfer case and then the tailhousing to replace it. Not fun in the backyard but doing. A transmission shop would think nothing of replacing it and good guy with what he needed at hand could swap it in about an hour, maybe two.
But before you get too excited over all that, how about trying to clean some of the mud and crap off those extension housing bolts? Then see if some are loose and just need to be tightened up.
