I got the lever off but I cant rotate as far forward as the one in the picture about. I can only rotate to about where the bolt hole is for the natural safety switch or flip it down below the pan as it will the transmission housing. ran out of time to try to get it back together but may try later tonight or tomorrow


the number on the lever is D8TP-BA does any one know if this is the right lever thanks

 

Here's a pic of my C6 from a 77 f150 351m. The shift lever when pushed all the way to the rear puts the trany in park. It seems like you could point your lever up, push it to the rear, disconnect your linkage put the shift lever in park then adjust and reconnect the linkage. That's the way I did mine and it shifts great. Good luck with it.

 

it looks a lot like your all the way back is park. does your truck have the linkage running form the shifter to a bracket on the frame or form the shift to the transmission. mine runs form the shift to the transmission. thanks

ok thanks I don't remember this truck ever having the piece on the frame but maybe it did. I guess I will have to run to the local pull and pay. Did ford ever make it just run form the steering column to the transmission in the 78 f150.

 

I don't know but I can't see in my mind how it could work like that.

 

well no luck at the junkyard today. I did notice after doing some research online that they make different manual shift lever. not sure what the part number is but I think the one that I need is E0tz-7a256b does anyone know if that it right.

If I may........

You stated you are going to race the truck, that being the case, who cares? Get a Cheetah Shifter and live a long happy life.

Racing + Column shifter = Unhappy racer.

Plus The linkage often gets in the way of headers. Anyway, just a different thought.

its ok that its upside down. I believe that I have figure out that I need the linkage like what you have. does the rod connecting to your transmission run straight up or does it connect to the frame.
I believe I have one like fuzzybob but I need the one like yours 1320stang. If you can could you see if you can find a part number on it. I have talk to a couple of people and they have told me that the number I posted earlier was for 1980 and later trucks so I was wondering if there is a difference in the part.

 

Is your truck 2 or 4WD? They take different manual levers.
The 2WD lever is D8TZ-7A256-A
The 4WD version is D8TZ-7A256-B
Unfortunately I couldn't locate any dealer or obsolete parts supplier that has either.

Sorry, I only saw this today. Mine is 2wd, and I'm almost positive it goes straight from the column to the trans, but I'll confirm.

It would seem maybe you're missing a bell crank. Lets see if I can make this work:

Ignore the dots. The equal signs are the rods, if you pull on the top one, the bottom one pushes and visaversa. You could be missing that I guess, but I have no ida.

 

this might be a stupid question but why does it matter for the manual transmission control linkage if its 2 or 4 wheel drive.

 

Not stupid. The linkage set up is different between the two. In 2WD the shift arm from the steering column connects directly to the shift arm on the transmission by a single rod. In 4WD the shift linkage involves a bellcrank style linkage.
