Differential Backlash

Hello again everyone. Now that my transmission is fixed on my 94 F-150, my next project is to work on the excessive backlash on both differentials. I have never had the luxury of working on a positraction differential, seeing my euro car does not have it.
I am guessing that I will need, at the least, a new differential gasket, spacers, gear oil and friction modifier. Anything else you can think of that I will need? I am hoping that I will not have to replace the ring and pinion gears.

No gasket required; just use Permatex ultra gray for the cover gasket (thin coat is all you need). Measure the backlash first before you start changing anything. Watch the mesh pattern as you change it too. Backlash isn't the only critical spec, though you likely know that already.

Not sure if you're planning on it but it is the best time to go ahead and re-clutch the limited slip and put all new carrier and pinion bearings in.

I figured someone would suggest to change the clutches as long as I am in there. So it looks like a differential kit with the clutches, spacers, bearings, seals (where needed) and gear lube if I'm correct. I may replace the ring and pinion gear if they are damaged due to the backlash.
I'll probably take the cover off soon to inspect the gears to give me an idea of what to get and throw some cheap lube in till I rebuild it.

I rebuilt my rear end a few years ago. The clutch kit was around $80 I think. That was pretty easy. Did new bearings too. The axles were worn at the inner race part for the bearings. I bought new axles from bronco graveyard. I think they were less than $200. Did brakes too since i was there. Great now.
