Fuel tank capacity

Issue: My 2009 F250 6.8L CCSB 4X4 Superduty is supposed to have a 30 gallon tank. I have never been able to put more than about 20 gallon or so in the tank from empty. Did Ford put smaller tanks in some of these trucks? Seems kinda dumb to me to put a small fuel tank in a truck that uses a ton of fuel. Is there a marking on the tank that I can see from climbing underneath the truck that will tell me that capacity of the tank? Is it complicated to switch to a larger capacity Ford gas tank? Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks.

short bed gets a 29 or so gallon tank, long bed gets a 39 or so gallon tank. and no, you can not put a long bed tank in a short bed, the tank will not fit. the reason you only put 20 gallons in is because the fuel pump sits in a cup of sorts so it does not suck crud off the bottom of the tank.
