Efi Swap Flywheel

Hello again, it's been a while, I've been very busy lately. I've reached the end stages of my project: a 1989 302 HO out of an '89 MARK VII automatic into my '76 Bronco with an 11'' clutch and NV3550 5 spd trans. When I switched over to the NV3550 I kept my original flywheel. Now, keeping in mind that the newer motors are balanced differently, could I use the same flywheel, and if not, what type of flywheel do I need? Please let me know the year , model of car or truck, also is it possible to have my original flywheel modified in order to be able to use it with the '89 302 HO? Thnks so much. Ted...

I have an '89 5.0 HO from a Mustang GT in my '74. It requires the 50 oz-in imbalance flywheel. I got mine from a late 80's F150 pickup.

I've got a flywheel out of a 1984 F150 , I was told that it had to be between 1981-1987 . Thanks so much for the reply. Ted.

I got mine from an 86 F150. Just make sure it is a 302 application. I orignally bought a flywheel that I took off an 83 Bronco with a NP435 with a 302. Notice that I said that I removed it myself. Now this bronco had apparently originally been an auto and swapped to the 4 speed. After spending two hours removing the flywheel on a vehicle that was sitting on the ground without wheels, and driveshafts still hooked up, i got to checking casitng numbers when I got home. Guess what? it was a flywheel for a 300 6 cyl. I would imagine that is why this Bronco ended up the junkyard, it proably shook bad after the swap! (300's are internally balanced, and yes will bolt right up) Watch out for Windsor flywheels too, the are 28.2 oz imbalanced like older 302's. Just a warning, it would be a bummer to get it all done just to have to change flywheels!

Hi Mike thanks for the reply. I've found a flywheel out of an 1984 F150, I didn't actually see the truck, my bronco pressure plate bolts right on it and it bolts right on to the crank and the # of teeth on the ring gear also match. It does not have the chunk of weight on it like my old flywheel. How can I be absolutely certain that this the right part? Do the #s on the flywheel mean anything? CSAE-6380 C EOTE-BA 4H3. Thanks again Mike. Ted.

ooh Better watch it! Just because the flywheel will bolt up doesn't mean it is right! If that flywheel doesn't have the cast in counterweight on the backside(the opposite side where the clutch goes), it probably is a 300 flywheel. That is what made me suspicious of the first one I got. I compared it to my 302 flywheel off of a 73 Bronco 302 and it had the counter balance and I know it was the 28.2 oz imbalance. So it didn't make sense to me that a 50 oz. imbalance flywheel had would have no counterweight. I took that part # off the flywheel and called a Ford dealer and he informed me it was a 300 6 cyl flywheel. A proper 50 oz flywheel, 164 tooth for an 11" clutch will have a larger counterweight than the 28.2 oz 302 flywheel. If I remember correctly, the 6380 part of your number is the same on my 300 flywheel. I still have that flywheel and I will check tommorrow and let you know for sure. So, I think you have the wrong flywheel. I think the # on my 50 oz 302 flywheel is EOTZ-6375-A.

Hi Mike, I'll bring the flywheel into Sanderson Ford Tuesaday morning and find out what size type and year it is. What you're saying though makes perfect sense; I just can't imagine using the wrong flywheel after all the money, time and trouble I went through from the bigining of the conversion project. Thanks again Mike, happy Labor Day and if you're a hunter, happy hunting to you, and to all the hunters out there. Ted.

I checked my 300 flywheel and it was CSAE-6380-C. So I believe you do have wrong flywheel.

Hi Mike. I apreciate all you've done for me. You saved me from having to pull the motor out again, especially down here in AZ in 110 degree heat, well, I'd rather be doing something else. Thanks Mike. Ted.
