Time to go - bloody CA SMOG - ideas on price?

Well, its time to sell my truck (1979 2WD 351M) . I'm in CA, I bought it and never asked for the SMOG (lesson learnt). When I tried to smog it , it was classified a gross polluter - yikes.
I've had the engine rebuilt, transmission serviced, new brakes, new steering box, new carb, new oil and water pumps, new floor pans (still to be installed), new door cards, new carpet, new rubber seals, new battery, new hoses, fixed some little electrical gremlins. It has a nice Sony sound system (original owner installed). I was going to change the wheels and tires (wayyy to wide for the right look - original owner installed)
Tried 2 times more and smog wont pass although the numbers are getting better. Taking it to a new mechanic to try something else.

The car is still registered to the old owner (hopefully get this sorted tomorrow at the DMV).

I've got about $14k into this truck, it runs and drives like a dream but I'm fed up with it now. Any ideas on the best way to shift it and for how much?

$14,000 and it isnt even in your name?!

when i bought my '79, it had been registered a gross polluter. it was using a lot of gas and we couldnt get it to back off. i finally changed out the jets in the carb to smaller ones, and it passed with flying colors.

Hmm, would've hoped my mechanic had thought of that but I'm going to try another shop first. Cheers

Can only be sold for parts without passing smog. Not sure the value. Why not find another mechanic and get it to pass? That's cheaper than taking a huge loss on that truck.

Does it have all required smog equipment? Was it originally manufactured for sale in CA?

Oh boy

Found someone who knew what to do and he did. Correctly routed the vacuum tubes, fixed the evap tube for the gas and it passed the smog
He did find an issue in the carb (drafter circuit clogged) so its going back to the original mechanic to be replaced under warranty

Give him a plug. Maybe someone else will need his services. Paying for work is fine as long as the mechanic knows his business.

Joe's Smog Shack in Tracy CA. Superb and the only place the truck will be going in future.

Good guys there!

I just called that shop. Really nice guys. Helpful too. From what I understand, I will have to go to a referee because my truck has a different motor. It was a stock 400 2V and is now a 460 4V. Here's for crossing fingers!!!
