1987 6.9L f-250 tranny swap

So I have a 1987 F-250 6.9L with the 4 speed transmission. I recently what I believe to be the synchro's in the transmission go, it won't drive in any gear for very long, and I have a 1992 7.3L with a strong 5 speed that I can use. I am curious if I can put the 5 speed into my truck and if I can will I need to change or get anything different? Or will it bolt up no problem?

welcome to FTE

the 5 speed is a common swap into the 4 speed trucks. having a donor truck is the best, just take all the parts you need off it, and put them into the 87.

the only real issue i can see in using he 92 trans is it will not have a speedometer port in the tailshaft, and unless your trucks are 4X4 you will have to get creative to figure out how to get a working speedometer.

cheapest way would be a GPS speedometer.

Both trucks are 4x4 so how does that affect it?

That was my plan unless the transfer case decided to give out on me too. Thanks!

Where are you located? I may be interested in your old one.

You will have to move the old crossmember back a few inches,
Someone also said the five speed crossmember will bolt up and be in the right spot, this i do not know but might be worth looking into to save you the trouble. Your old transfer case will bolt to the five speed as well.

I would stick with your smf and just order a good clutch and pressure plate for it. Southbend has 12" kevlars for around $450
Shouldn ever make enough power to destroy it XD
