oil leak from dip stick tube to pan

I thought I was doing something to clean up my air intake to turbo.

As you know there is a breather on the left valve cover that has an 5/8" ID elbow hose that goes into the air intake just before the turbo. I've been getting some oil filtering up through it and into the turbo, making the turbo look dirty. 220k on the engine.

I built and added an additional canister to collect any oil coming through. I originally just added a small air filter on top of the canister, but while at a stop, fumes and visible vapor would come out from under the hood. From what I've seen, this is normal. It does not look to be excessive. I didn't like smelling or seeing the fumes, so I removed the filter and added a clear 3/8" ID tubing back to the air intake. I have a 5/8" ID hose from the valve cover breather to the canister. Since doing this I have developed an oil leak which I traced coming from where the oil dip stick tube enters the fitting on the side of the oil pan. No oil on top of engine. Lost a little over a gallon of oil in under 300 miles.

There is no visible oil running through the clear tubing from the canister to the air intake, what I wanted to accomplish.

My thinking is I have too small of the return from the canister to air intake, causing the oil that is thrown against the dip stick tube fitting to be forced out through where to tube is pushed into the fitting. I'm going to try a 5/8" ID hose to see if this stops the oil leak.

I didn't just want to put some sealer at the dip stick tube afraid it would just cause a leak somewhere else.

Any input would be welcomed.

Sounds like a clogged ccv, aka dog house. Take it out and clean it out.

If you add to the length of the hose or change the diameter , you add to the CCase pressure . Most add the hose to the exhaust to run it out the back of the truck .

Thanks for the info. I can see how a clogged ccv could cause this. I did change the hose size from the canister to the intake, went to a 7/8" ID and that seems to have taken care of the oil leak. To much restriction from the small hose. Now will see if I'm still getting a dirty air intake from oil residue. If so, I may just run a hose down and out the back of the truck.
