clutch recommendations for a 1965 ford f100

I see numerous clutches online for my truck. Just wondering what is it you guys would recommend for my truck. It has the 352 motor, 4 speed transmission (rev is up to the right). And I am told it has a "granny gear" though I am not 100% sure what that means.

The symptoms the truck is experiencing:

Hard to find gears.
Even in neutral sounds like something in tranny is rubbing
Grinding going into gears.

With reverse being to the right and forward, your 4 speed is a Borg-Warner T-18. The other factory supplied 4 speed in 1965 was a New Process NP-435. Both had "granny" first gears, which is to say, very low ones to enable the truck to pull heavy loads from rest. Usually, you would ignore first gear and just start off in second gear. Two of the symptoms you describe, grinding, and hard to find gears could possibly just require a clutch linkage adjustment. Hard to find gears can sometimes be just the nature of the beast as it was built 50 years ago for agricultural/industrial use. The "tranny is rubbing" sound in neutral pretty much means the throw-out bearing needs to be replaced, which means the transmission needs to be removed to do it. I don't mean to be insulting, but I don't get the impression you have a lot of experience in clutch replacement. If that's the case, I wouldn't do this as your first one by yourself. If you have a competent mechanic friend who has experience, then let him do it with your help. Some parts of the job need special equipment/tools and two people anyway. Another point, since you are selling your truck, the likelihood of you recouping your expenses from a clutch replacement is small. Have a go at adjusting the linkage, with a knowledgeable mechanic, and see if that helps. That won't cost you any/much money. Then I'd sell it as is, so long as it can be driven by your potential buyer and you warn him ahead of time. A lot of people would rather do a job themselves rather than wonder about the competence of the person who did it. Just my opinion. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Yes you are right. This would be too ambitious of a job for me. And I would look to a mechanic to get it done. And true about selling it. I know I will not make that money back. Hell as it sits I am selling it for 2500 obo. But I am hoping I can take it for one good spin before I sell it. But yes if it sells prior then I'll be good with it. Got a month before I move.
