New Used 2006 F350 Crew Cab 6.0 DRW
Just bought a 2006 F350 Crew Cab 6.0 with DRW from Texas with 130K miles.. Service Records unavailable so my thoughts are to change every fluid and filter on the truck... Its been a long time since I owned a diesel so I would really welcome what every fluid and filter entails as well as to fluid and filter type and manufacture if you have had good results with one.
I ran a car fax, a ford oasis and paid a diesel shop down there to go through the truck, they found no error codes and no evidence of any of the typical 6.0 problems or fixes... The other reports came up clean. If there are some of the typical 6.0 problems that you would tackle as well please include those. The truck is in good shape, has a brand new flat bed that I plan on adding a dump cylinder too. It has a $1500 Ranch Hand front bumper and grille that I'm sandblasting and powder coating. I'm removing all seats and installing a good vinyl floor covering with sound deadening pad. I've ordered a set of Marathon seat covers, and I'm replacing headlights and grille. I'm having the factory aluminum wheels refinished by Detroit wheel and putting Goodyear Wrangler MT/R on.
If there are any other helps that come to mind I really value the wisdom on this site.
Thanks for your help, Brent

Hey Brent, I just bought a 2006 DRW as well recently. Here is the thread I started. Has some good info and tips from the great folks here on FTE.

Congrats on the new ride! Other than fluids and maybe upgrading the fuel spring (blue spring kit from Ford) I would start with a set of gauges and monitor. You may have a perfectly health 6.0 that you can just drive and enjoy.
Initial monitoring-
Turbo
FICM voltages
Battery Heath - very important and alway replace as a set.
HPO - ICP/IPR
EOT/ECT - Deltas between should be around 4-8° for a health oil cooler. Bring up to full temp, drive on flat ground for about 20 min for a good test.

OEM oil, transmission, fuel filters (Motorcraft, International, or Racor)
OEM air filter (Motorcraft or International)
I like synthetic oil, I think it is worth it.
Stick w/ OEM fluid change intervals: fuel 15k miles or 10k miles in severe service and oil 7.5k miles or 5k miles severe service.
You can change the air filter off of the "filter-minder"
The EXTERNAL transmission filter should be changed at least every 30k miles. I do mine at 20k miles.
Use only Mercon SP or Mercon LV transmission fluid.
Coolant is a big choice and so is how to flush the system. I do not mind the Ford Gold coolant (with proper maintenance), but no doubt the EC-1 rated diesel ELC coolants are better and require less maintenance. Use distilled water to "blend" the concentration.
A coolant filter is well worth the expense IMO.
