ZF5 trans part of a 1987 engineering study?

Hi Guys,
Just picked up a ZF5 to swap out the E4OD in my 94 f250 460 4WD.
Not very common over here ($1500-$3000!!!).
The 2 PTO cover plates have a sticker on them with the following:"
"ENGINEERING STUDY EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Call toll free 18003387077 before attempting to repair this transmission (Alaska and Illinois check oasis.)
This program expires on 10 31 87
Trans is dated 08 04 87
Does anyone know anything about this?
Anything to be concerned about?

Cheers,
Doug
