Sector shaft

Anyone happen to know where I can buy a sector shaft for a 78/79 F150/Bronco steering box? Any aftermarket upgrades out there? I couldn't come up with anything, obviously not much demand for something like this.

Mine is kind of broke a little. I would also be interested in purchasing a complete used box. Not interested in a new box, I will be converting to full hydro steering soon

The sector shaft is inside the steering gearbox, the Pitman Arm (above) connects to it, then the draglink (above) connects to the Pitman Arm.

D8TZ-3304-A .. Draglink / Obsolete ~ Available NOS & from autoparts stores

1978/79 F150 4WD (except Super Cab) & Bronco.

Upper Bronco pic: Right end (in pic) of draglink (3304) is shown connecting to Pitman Arm.

Lower pic of steering gearbox: 3575 is the sector shaft.

Yes, part of the sector shaft is still inside the pitman arm, the rest of it is where it belongs inside the box

ND see the front axle link set up, hydraulic bump stops, high steer, cross over, high angle heim fittings.....no need to try to school him, just let him know if you can locate the part he needs.

lucky he means well, his application can be very different. As far as locating a shaft, maybe from wcb? I can not believe you can not locate a box in a JY somewhere in all of Washington. Or maybe Redhead would sale just a sec shaft? http://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/

Power steering. I have not searched the yards yet, just poked around online. I did send an email to redhead, not holding my breath on that. I'll give west coast a try too, thanks

Sector shaft availability

I’m in need of a sector shaft for a 78 Bronco, the seal area is grooved and pitted. Does anyone have one available or is there a source that can repair them?

Look at using a Spedi-Sleeve to possibly repair it.

D7TZ-3575-B Sector shaft

Thanks for the reply, I’ve emailed FEYER FORD and am currently awaiting a reply.

GREEN SALES CO. Website indicates they are out of stock on the part number search.

WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS is no longer in business.

I purchased and installed the Spedi-Sleeve for the shaft size, SKF 99818. The seal spacer ID is too small and the seals are way too tight so I pulled it back off.

I tried Blue Top Steering, Tom’s Off-road, NOS Parts Ltd., also with no luck. Hopefully someone else has encountered this and can chime in with another source for the part.

I bought one last summer from Redhead. New is $300.00, Good used is $250.00, which is their core charge for a complete steering box.

Something that will snap them is excess lift using up all extra movement range in the ball joint of the drag link, so when the suspension stretches out like in rebound after a dip, the long drag link with axle on one end and truck on the other end, snaps something when the ball joint runs out of movement room. Might not happen the first time, but soon, it will.

I remember way back in the day, when I needed a new manual steering box for my bronco. Brand new from the local Ford dealer was $175.
Year or so later I bought a sector shaft from the same dealer just to refurbish the other box. Just the sector shaft cost 275!
This was back in about 1980 or so.

Still, price aside, I was glad they had both of them in stock when I needed it.
