Also, I will be replacing the fluid in the rear diff....I found a Felpro rear diff gasket at Advance......is this ok to use? will it leak??

Thanks...........

Open means no traction aid.

You can run a gasket, but even the FSM calls for a bead of silicone by itself. You're going to need to run some silicone or similar sealant on that gasket anyhow, so I wouldn't bother.

^Thank you Matt! Personally I wouldn't run a gasket either, just make sure the sealant you use is compatible with differential fluid. Permatex Right Stuff works well.

Can't always trust them door stickers... My 03 F350 door shows 4.10 Open diff, axle tag shows 4.10 LS. It is indeed a LS rear too.

Thanks all........I will have to get a pick of the tag as well.....The open diff does not require the additive correct??

Correct. Get the truck on jack stands or a lift, put the trans in N and rotate one tire, if the other tire moves the same direction, it's limited slip, if not, it's open.

ya, his sticker doesn't show anything under axle. Usually there's a # there. Like 42 would be 4.10

Enough to run a bead around the diff cover.

I used a gasket last time and it seeps, I will use RTV next time.

I have an open rear end but I am getting clutch chatter when turning so I am wondering if I have a LS rear axle. I need to add modifier, what is the correct Ford stuff for our trucks?
