Transmission or clutch or ....
Hi all:
1995 F250 7.3. Manual 5 speed transmission.
Stopped at an intersection, lifted the clutch, truck started to go, heard a faint pop and no power to the wheels. Barely drifted to the other side of the intersection.
Can shift to any gear without the clutch in. Feels like it is shifting into the gears.
Can press clutch, feels fine, but there does not seem to be a physical connection between clutch and gears.
No warning, everything was fine up to that point. Is there a pin or coupler between the south side of the clutch and gears known to cause these symptoms?
Any ideas of cause or what course of action I should take?
thanks in advance

You need to find a way to verify if the driveshaft is turning. Put it on jack stands and see if the shaft turns. Or put it in 4wd, if you have it, and see if it pulls. My brother had a very similar issue and turned out he sheared the bolts connecting the axle shaft to the wheel. Very odd indeed but 16 new bolts and he was back in business, he only sheared one side but we replaced both sides to be safe. And he was driving gentle when it happened. Crazy things happen

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to me is sounds like the input shaft has broken. If you can shift threw the gears without the clutch pushed in, and get no grinding of the gears, the input shaft isn't turning. You may be lucky, and the clutch plate hub might have given up the ghost, but either way the tranny is going to have to come out.

In my neck of the woods, the yards get $900 for a used 4X4 zf. On Ebay there venders selling rebuilts for $1200-1400. I saw one on craigslist for $500 the other day. The 2 wheel versions go for cheaper. Another possibility, do you know if you still have the dual mass flywheel installed? They do fail, but I have never heard of one failing this way. Start by removing the tranny. when it is out, you will be able to see what you are dealing with.
