Broken and Pinned finger??

I broke my long finger, they had to pin it four weeks after
I broke it and had it originally set. The set didn't take. I have very little info out of the Orthopedic. The pins don't bother me, it's the hand splint. Has anyone had this and can give me a little insight on what to expect. I start Occupational Therapy on the hand tomorrow. BTW The problem isn't with the Orthopedic, it's the stinking insurance company.

I wrecked my dirt bike many years ago, breaking my ring finger. I also had the have pins installed in my finger to keep the bones together. The doctor's office tried setting my broken finger a dozen times, without no luck, that was the most pain that I've ever been in, in my life. The second most painful day of my life was two days after my surgery. Basically, the physical therapist is going to warm up your hand with the broken finger with a hot towel and force your finger to move, and yes, I will suck badly. Save your money, and just do this step without going to the physical therapist. Time is the only thing that will heal a broken finger. It took my finger 4-5 years to get a 100% healed.

I got the pins removed today, four weeks after the surgery. The pins did not hurt, infact I was off pain meds three days after surgery. Also getting them removed didn't hurt, just a strange tugging feeling and they were out. I'm advising anyone that has a complete break of their fingers to get the pins put in. It's minor surgery, they put you out very briefly, and do a nerve block that last four to six hours. I lost four weeks on healing, and will have a much longer time in occupational therapy due to the delay on getting the pins.
