Rear disc conversion on my 1978 f250 custom 4x4 questions?
Hi,
I am looking to do the rear disc conversion on my 1978 f250 4x4 351m with 3 speed auto.
I found the adapter bracket:
Dana 60 Bolt-On Brake Caliper Bracket (Ford) ONLY $50
I think I got the right parts here (Please tell me if I'm missing or off something - From Advance Auto Parts because they have a 20% off coupon right now)
From a 1984 Chevrolet k20 4x4 pickup:
Front Brake Pads: Part No: MKD 153
(2) Front Brake Rotors: Part No: YH141049
Front Right Caliper: Part No: 18-4122
Front Left Caliiper: Part No: 18-4123
Caliper to Brake Hose bolt (2): Part No: 13940
Left Front Brake Hose: Part No: BHA38058
Right Front Brake Hose: Part No: BHA38060
(2) Brake Caliper to Bracket Bolts: H5004
I also tried to get the 8,600 GVW rated brakes from what I could find (bigger piston in caliper etc...) Did I miss anything on that regard?
Total Cost for Parts from Advance Auto Parts w/ 20% off: $162.33
TOTAL: $217.72 shipped
I've checked other places that sell kits, one place for $450 and the cheapest kit I've seen was $315 dollars. Yes, I know I can't use my parking brake anymore, but I haven't done so since I've owned the truck and the vehicle is automatic, so I'm not worried about stop, idle, and be able to get out of the truck to check something and have it not roll away...
Anyone that has done this conversion please tell me if I got it right please!

X2 on the adjustable proportioning valve. Here's a list I used. 1977 Ford F250 4x4 - Dana 60 Disc Brake Conversion
You'll also need some hard brake line.

I don't know if your '78 has a factory multi-function brake valve assembly (containing: a metering, pressure differential sensing and a proportioning valve) but, IF it does and, IF it does have a factory proportioning valve, you'll be setting up a situation of bad ju ju by installing a manual proportioning valve in tandem with the factory proportioning valve.
If your existing brake valve has a factory proportioning feature AND you install the man. prop valve, you'll have TWO proportioning valves competing against each other.

Do you have to get a vehicle safety insp for your state to get license plates? Even though YOU do not worry about not having an e-brake, the inspection place might not pass you for not having one?
If your vehicle does not have to go thru a safety insp, well there is nothing stopping you now. Yes pun intended, lol.
I have read that Cadillac rear disk brake calipers have a e brake connection place....

Thanks for the reply guys. I have leaking freeze plugs and a blown head gasket along with very low oil pressure at hot idle. I am going to put this on hold and pull the motor and rebuild the whole thing first...
