Anyone Have BFGoodrich Commercial T/A Tires

My 1999 F350 only has 38000 miles on it but the Firestone R4S tires are weather cracking and I am thinking about replacing them. Firestone said they would give me a "good will" credit on the remaining tread (about 50%); with the replacement cost ending up at about $400.

My local Costco can get BFGoodrich Commercial T/A tires (265/75/16 E load rating) and the cost would be about $500, which includes lifetime balancing and Road Hazard (which Firestone doesn't even offer).

Has anyone tried these BFGoodrich Commercial T/A tires?

Yes, I have them on a 1989 Ford E-350 Ambulance that we converted into a mobile weather lab for our group. We took it out to NE, KS, OK, TX, and CO. this year on our annual storm research venture. They rode very well, not noisy on the paved roads, and good traction on the dirt roads. I would definately put them back on as replacements. We put over 4000 miles on the truck in 2 weeks, over varying terrain, and varying weather conditions (dry and wet pavement, and dry and wet dirt roads), and had no problems at all on a truck that is close to 10,000 lbs.

If you want the absolute BEST commercial light truck tire take a look at the Bridgestone R-187. They weigh about 10 lbs. more than the BFG, cost about twice as much....but you will get three times the life out of them! We have converted several small fleets over to them and not one complaint...just THANKS!. Now they are a tough tire and will ride a little rougher, but depending on what you do with your truck....whether work or pleasure, I would take a serious look at these tires.....BUT if it is mainly for pleasure and a good ride....take a look at the Bridgestone R-250, it is similar construction, but it is made for a smoother ride....it is comparable to the BFG....now don't get me wrong, I run the BFG A/T on my personal truck, but it is not in serious commercial duty, plus I am off the highway quite often, so the application is right for me. So take a look at the Bridgestones before you make a choice....IMO, the BFG commercial tire is not that much heaver than the R4S, or Steeltex....they are about the same quality.

Bluehawk: Thanks for the report. Do you see these tires working OK for noncommercial personnal use?

CEEJAY: I couldn't find 16" Bridgestone R-250 tires.

I drive the truck for personal use: local driving and occasional towing of a 10,000lb 36' 5th-wheel camper. Drive about 8000 miles per year.

PeteC,

Although I use them on a 10,000 lb. truck, I don't see any problems using them on a personal vehicle. If you are primarily on the road, improved or not, I think they will do fine. If you do get off road much ie. yards, ect, I think I would prefer the all terrain version better. I think either tire would suit you well.

Just my $.02,

Bluehawk
