Just picked up a 64 F-100..."Swamp Donkey"
Just picked this truck up, trying to get it back on the road, needs some love for sure!
First order of business is to get the trans back in it, and get it moving on its own power...
That is why I am here...
It has T98-1480 or 148C stamped on it. Two issues. Needs a clutch and possible fly wheel. And the shifter once put in the trans just rotates around and around. Seems to go through all the gears if you hold it.
From what I can google, its a 4 speed, but I need some help with this one...
Thanks!

The Borg-Warner T-98 4 speed shift lever retainer cap threads on/off. Once it's removed, a trunnion (7B125 aka roll pin) is visible within the threads that locks the lever in place.
But a T-98 was never used with an FE engine. FE engines in F100/350's used either a Warner T-18 (similar to a T-98) or the New Process 435.
352 is an FE engine, has 5 valve cover bolts per side. Was first installed in 1965 F100/350. The only V8 available 1961/64 was the 292 Y block.

Well, the photo is a bit blurry, but it looks to me like someone swapped out the original motor for the FE block. Did they ever finish the conversion, I wonder, or get to the point where the trans didn't fit and give it up? In any case, it will be much easier to find a flywheel/clutch/transmission combo for the FE than for a Y-Block. An auto parts store should have the clutch, maybe a flywheel.
If the truck still has its data plate, it would be interesting to decode to see how it started life. Can you post a photo of it?

Photo's of the engine swap would be interesting to see, considering how a 292 mounts in a 1961/64 vs. how a 352 mounts in a 1965/66.
