"Engine Oil Cooler" for a 2006 5.4 FX4 F150

I have a 2006 5.4 FX4 F150 Supercrew. I am trying to find out if Ford ever made a factory Engine Oil Cooler for these motors that were in these trucks. I have a flatbed trailer with a truck on it that has a combined weight of just under 7000lbs and the last time I was towing it I was seeing engine oil temps in the 265deg range but only for a few min. Oddly enough the trans temp was fine. I am using a ScanGaugeII to monitor my temps. I live in Southern California and usually tow the truck and trailer up some fairly steep grades to get to where I am going.
I bought a Derale 15405 oil cooler kit that uses the sandwich adapter and I do not think it is going to work. The adapter is nice because it uses a valve that only sends the oil to the cooler once the temp goes above 180deg, but the problem is with the inlet/exit ports on the adapter that go to the cooler and that the added length pushes the filter into the lower radiator hose. Derale includes in the kit straight barbed fittings for the adapter and no matter how the adapter is clocked the hose that would come off the fittings will hit something. Anyone that has ever changed their own oil on one of these truck will know how tight the space is around the oil filter. I tried using an NPT to -8 an fitting with a 90deg AN fitting on that and it sort of works but once the oil lines to the cooler are in that area it will make for a nightmare and a mess when changing the oil. Hopefully someone knows of Ford making an OEM kit or another alternative. The last resort would be to have a remote oil filter mount with the cooler lines coming off of that but there is not a clear area to mount the filer that will not make a mess when doing an oil change.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Pete

So 181 views and nothing. I guess this brings up two good questions. Are people even monitoring the oil temp when towing and if so, what temps are they seeing. I know lots of people on this site are towing equal to or larger loads than I am. What are you guys seeing. I am using a ScanGaugeII that plugs into the factory harness. I am not sure where the factory oil temp sender is located. Thanks

I have a Scanguage II And would like to display my engine oil temp. How did you do this? What is the code to use to make this happen? I have looked for the code but never found it. If you have other codes that you would like to share I would like to see those too.

I am not sure if you have used the XGauge function on your ScanGaugeII but that is where you enter the codes for other parameters. If you do not know how to do this, go to the ScanGauge site. https://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge-commands/

Depending on your year vehicle you will need to use the appropriate codes. My truck is a 2006 and uses the CANSF codes. Follow the directions on the site to determine yours.

I found the Engine Oil Temp codes below on the following site. Mine worked with EO1
Scangauge II problems - Ford Explorer and Ranger Forums "Serious Explorations"®
Engine Oil Temperature (Degrees F) EO1
TXD: 07E0220907
RXF: 046205090607
RXD: 3010
MTH: 000100080000
NAM: EO1

Engine Oil Temperature (Degrees F) EO2
TXD: 07E0221310
RXF: 046245130610
RXD: 3010
MTH: 00090005F05F
NAM: EO2

I am also using the following for Trans Fluid Temp.
TXD: 07E0221674
RXF: 046205160674
RXD: 3010
MTH: 00010080000
NAM: TFT

Once you get it to work, let me know what engine oil temps you are seeing. I am somewhat surprised that more people are not talking about engine oil temps. Especially when towing.

Hope this information helps.

I tried both codes and I am getting a number in decimal format like 0.45. I will go back later and see if I punched something in wrong. I have an 08 with the 5.4.

Id rather have my oil get hot. 265 isn't that bad. hot oil will not sludge up. and the valvetrain will sludge up sooner than the bottom end......

Brokenleg - Sorry but I am not OK with oil that hot. Oil that hot in a motor under heavy load is not a good combination.

I am still surprised that after a month of this being posted that no one seems to have any engine oil temp numbers.

Well when I get around to installing the Derale 15405 oil cooler kit maybe I will see if anyone is interested in buying an installation package from me that includes the cooler mount, correct fittings and hoses. Since I have the real time engine oil temp gauge I will be able to see just how effective the cooler with the bypass valve works. More to come.

I don't remember where I saw it, but a while ago I came across a post where someone took a kit to remote your oil filter, cut one of the lines and put a cooler in it. The filter was mounted behind the bumper.

jr105 - Yeah I thought about doing the relocation kit but the engine bay layout does not have a good spot to mount the filter so it will not make a mess when changing it. The one benefit to the Derale kit is the bypass valve that is built into the adapter. It allows oil to bypass the cooler when it is below 180deg. I would think this feature would be beneficial to those that live in cold climates. It's not necessarily something I need to worry about in Southern California, but its a nice to have. I have an oil change coming up soon so I may try to install it while I have the filter off.

Very old thread, but I'm looking to add an oil cooler to my 2005 FX4. What set up did you end up using? Thanks!
