Hey everyone im narrowing in on being finished my build of my 48.i need help getting a title.ive never had one as i started with a cab and frame .need to know if anyone has a answer to my problem .i live in Maryland
Ive been to the dmv.and they are totally useless and no help whatsoever.i have a vin plate just no title
Well, a lot of states use the frame number for the title. You said you had a frame to start with, so what frame do you have under the truck? Did that frame ever have a title of any kind issued?
Does the frame stamp match the plate you mentioned?
No the plate i have i picked up from a guy so they do not match
Understand you can buy all the tags in the world, but if they don't match your frame number, they're useless. The frame number is the legal VIN accepted by most states and the FBI. To avoid potential future legal issues and possible confiscation, I would suggest making sure your frame number is clean and that you find a way to title your truck with that number. Do not try to use fake or mis-matched tags. That just makes matters worse and raises red flags if the truck is ever inspected. Most states have an inspection procedure and a process to get a bonded title for cases just like yours. That is your best course of action.

I hate to be an "I told you so", but it appears that you have been a member here for about 7 years, and actively posting your build here for the past 4 1/2 years. During that time we have had countless post regarding titles, where we all encourage people to always get the paperwork (title) in order BEFORE they start sinking money into a project. There are numerous post here about the fact that buying / selling "vin (or ther types of ID) plates" is illegal in ALL states and is actually a federal felony.
As was suggested above, Forget that illegal plate you mentioned, the number stamped in the frame is the ONLY number that matters. Take that number to your dmv and explain your situation, if they say they can't help, ask for a supervisor. You may wind up having to contact the main office for the state.
Be prepared for a long drawn out and possibly expensive lesson.
