P/O spoiled another repair!

He enlarged the hole for the Ignition Switch, so I can't use the original style switch... He also enlarged the hole for the starter button so he just liked cutting metal.

Added to what I already found that he cut the Corners of the radio hole to add a DIN radio. Along with holes he drilled... Just pure evil!

I got lucky and figured out the switch is for a 73 Heep CJ5... Ordered one and should be here by Saturday.

Those POs do the stupidest things . It's really bad though when they remove needed items or cut frames and don't tell you.

Last night I just had to vent! I have a dash from a 51 that I'm making a lower dash extension need to look and see if I can use a piece of it to do some repairs later.

Not that difficult to make/weld in a patch. Use a step drill to drill a hole in a piece of 18 or 19 ga sheet for the switch(es), clamp a block of wood behind dash and use a hole saw to drill out the messed up part of the dash (oversize) or two holes and straight cut between the two to cut out an oval for two switches. Trim the new patch to fit the cut out hole, weld in place and metal finish.

The problem is the stock switch has lugs in the hole that the switch locks into.

When I go look at something and the p/o has cut into vital areas like that, I simply says no thanks and leave. I'm a purist when it comes to my dash/instrument panel/steering wheel, etc. I'm a novice when it comes to welding so I don't want to make matters worse.

I hear you there! But once I find a dash that I can cut up and borrow a welder to weld it in.

Moe, I have a few old dashes laying around, I'm trying clean out my shop and would happy to cut a chunk out and send it to you. You pay the shipping, which can't be too bad. I'd cut out as much as you want, I'd keep the headlight switch.

bobj49f2, I would love to take you up on that. Can I talk you into the radio area too?

How bad is your entire dash? I can trim the dash so you could replace the entire face of the dash. It might be easier than trying to weld in multiple patches.

Moe, I can cut the individual pieces out. I'll try to cut them this weekend. PM your address and we'll work out getting them shipped.
