Another parts number query - neutral safety switch, shift lever
OK, I know the last numbers but don't know the prefixes. I only know these from the fordification schematic. Probably would take me a while to find them in the PDF version of the parts manuals.
7A256 - shift lever
7a247 - neutral safety switch
Fits a 1971 F100 with 240/300 engine and C4 automatic transmission.

Bill knows but for all out there wondering why Bill's pic shows the 7A247 next to the 7A256 when our Bumps have the 7A247 on the column, this is a good example of Ford's "typical" pictures. Notice the application down on the bottom of his pic. You'll see it says "TYPICAL". Ford used the same pic for more than Bumps. It says 64/72 truck because that is the "book" that page originally came from that is now burned on Bill's CD. Same pic elsewhere but it would have a different application listed in a different book. Like say the 65/72 Car book/slide/CD.

The NSS selector lever (D0TZ-7B097-B) snaps onto the shift tube thru hole in the steering column shroud. Its knife blade end fits into the NSS
See both at lower right in pic.

Thanks guys.
Regarding the C7TZ7A247A, this is the part on the transmission, correct. From the drawing it appeared as if it was part of the manual shift lever on the tranny.
When I search for that part number I see references to the part on the steering column, which I have.

OK, thanks both of the resident parts experts. Of course the part I seek is the one nobody has.
Just trying to work it out in my head how the ignition system knows the truck is in gear or in park. I am surmising the transmission does not communicate with the electrical system. It is the position on the steering column that handles that function.

You're prolly using more than two index fingers.
No, the C7TZ7A247A is not on the trans. It is on the column. >
The funny thing is I do also. Our difference is I am still working so those two index fingers work fast. And you are retired so yours don't have to. Color me jealous.
