VIN Research
New to the forum. I'm trying to find out as much about my truck as I can. I replaced the cab 10 years ago because the original cab was covered in rust. Where can I find a VIN number? The title I have from 1983 has a veh. id. number but when I enter it into a Ford VIN decoder it doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

While looking around and searching on this forum I learned that the glove box lid has an id placard screwed to it. I know that makes me sound like an idiot but you have to understand that my truck was torn apart 20 years ago when I was 13 years old and the interior pieces have been in a box. I ran out to the shed and dug through all the pieces and found my glove box lid AND THERE IT WAS. I entered the number into vinmagic.com and this is what it said:
1951 Ford F-1 Conventional
Series: F-1 Conventional
Engine Code: I6 226 CID
Production Year: 1951
Assembly Plant: Richmond, CA
Production Sequence: *****
My dad has always told me this truck was a 1952 F1. The title I have from 1983 says model year 52. I guess my dad was wrong and it's a 1951?

I went through the same thing with my 51 F1. The Serial number stamped on the frame contains limited information, as does the glovebox tag. Some trucks have the detailed code stamped on the firewall near the top center-mine does not. Yours may or may not have it; don't be surprised if it doesn't.
If the detail code is not on the firewall, you, like me, are SOL.
