Old Tan Sandy My 96 Build thread!

Hey everyone, my name is Kris. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic. I always liked ford trucks, and always wanted an OBS. I bought sandy about a month ago, she needed both fuel pumps, rear fuel tank, but other than that The truck was in pretty good shape and only had 105k on it.

My plans are;
Fix all the Rust. (anyone know how to avoid repainting the whole bed after patch panels? )
6" lift (ORDERED. waiting on Rough Country)
Trying to figure out a good set of 35's and 18" rims. Thinking a set of fuels. and Maybe Goodyear Duratrac, or General Grabbers. Ran them both before.
Im looking for donor 5.8 truck for engine swap.
Get stripes at bottom done by someone else, or vinyl. The plastidip is great, i just want a gloss finish.
Get the windows tinted
6.4 bumper put on (have one, havent had time to make brackets.)
trying to find rear drop bumper.
Paint the window chrome black
Fix exhaust
and Seat Swap.

Thanks guys enjoy!
The first thing I did to it was change the headlights out to projectors, get the grille body colored, and black it out for the most part.

After that I sprayed in a bedliner, i used the duplicolor sand storm bedliner, i think it was. I used like 8 cans, and its been on for a good two months and its held up pretty well.

after the bedliner, i replaced the mirrors for the camper style. and replaced the badges for ones off of a 2006.

Rust Fix

I did fix the front rust, was rusted on drivers side front fender, but not drivers side.

First thing, im not a body man by any means. But I taped it off and sprayed it with paint remover to see how high the rust went, and cut the section out above the rust. I then cut out a section from a junkyard fender. I bolted it at the bottom, and lined it up. Welded to fender, grinded, threw some mud on it. and sanded again before primer.

To trying to paint that section to match, i just painted from the rocker down black. I used plasti-dip. Its not bad stuff, if your gonna do something like stripes. tape it off, and rip the tape off as soon as you spray. Spray heavy!

And here's how she sits now! Hopefully I can get the Lift and tires on not this weekend but the following, but mores definately coming!

thanks! i like the way they look, the only thing is you cant aim them, mine point like straight to the ground, so i usually use my highs. But i heard of some people using washers behind them to aim them up.

Good job on the rust repair. What kind of lift are you installing? Tire size? Just curious.

I'm going with the rough country 6" lift with the leafs. Still trying to figure out what tire, but going with a 35x12.50r18. Not sure what brand, thinking duratracs, general grabbers, but i really want the Hankook DynaPro's, there just a lil more than what i'd wanna pay.

What are you runnin? , like the way your truck sits!

Body work looks good. I like the lower portion black, did that to a ranger I had years ago with bedliner. Looks good, keep the updates coming, great progress so far.

Been a little bit, but tinted the windows, rear window is 5% sides are 20%, ordered some 37/12.50R16.5's and some 16.5 steelies! so hopefully i can get this thing riding high in a month or so! I'm going to try and take care of body work in the mean time, I'm planning on welding in rear fender patch panels this weekend, and then january I'm sending the truck out to be re painted!

I also went over the black plastidip with duplicolors custom wraps clear coat, the stuff sprays good, but looks a lil foggy so i painted it with normal clear thats not supposed to peal off. But for now, just waiting on parts, hoping i can get the lift & tires done before snow hits. Thanks everyone for the compliments!
