Input needed on a 2nd excursion
I already have a great 2002 7.3 4x4 EX that I've worked to make as dependable as possible.
We are looking to ad a second EX for my wife to use as a daily driver. Since 7.3's are hard to find, and well used, I'm looking at 2005 6.0's
Here is where I need some input. To date I've only been looking at 4wd options because you never know when you'll need it.
I have lead on a local '05 with a 6.0, but it's only 2wd.
Since I have a lifted EX 4x4, I'm thinking the wife could have the 2wd for soccer and football practice.
What would others do if they were in the same position?
I'm blown away what these are selling for, all are 19k-25k 😮

Buy the 2wd and enjoy it. You won't believe the power of the 6.0...it gets even better tuned
As for 4wd, you can always snag a tore up F250/350. The components literally bolt in. All holes already there. No welding/modifications needed. Several guys have done it using a donar vehicle parked next to rig
I recommend a utility truck with manual t-case. And the Dana 60. Good luck!

are you completely set on having a diesel? being that you already have one, if this is just for a daily, i'd suggest a v10. they are WAY less, and it would take you years (especially now with gas prices down) to make the extra cost of the diesel truck worth the few extra MPGs. i have a v10 excursion as well as a 6.0 f350 dually, and while yes the diesel is faster, can tow more, etc., for a daily driver i'd be completely fine with the v10. i have no intentions of ever getting rid of either truck, especially the excursion, but the v10 will do anything i need it to do. if you haven't driven one, i suggest checking one out, you will probably like it! less cost (you can find NICE ones here in florida for 8k or less, SUPER NICE maybe 10k). theres even some around for 5k. so less overall purchase price, way less in maintenance over the years, and still able to tow a house.

Yes I'm set on a Diesel, I see v10's all over the place, but the already poor fuel economy would only be worse with my wife's foot on the skinny pedal. I've been looking for another 7.3 but I'm open to a late model 6.0 in an Excursion when the issues were resolved.
The EX is an early 05 before they turned down the assembly line. My local mechanic is a 6.0 specialist. When I took him my 7.3, I had to help with with understanding the "sounds" of the motor.
Anyway, I'm captured by the extra power and fuel economy of the 6.0 and my wife has finally come around that an EX is the right truck for her.
When I got my 7.3 several years ago, I paid 11,500. Today trucks in worse shape than mine are listed for $15K! I can't believe all the trucks listed North of $22K.

when i got my excursion, i was set on a diesel also, just because i wanted one, not because i needed one. i ended up with my v10 and i love it, its got plenty of power, less money as far as maintenance goes, and will last a very long time just like the powerstrokes will, given you take care of them. i just came across a deal on my new 2004 f350 6.0 thats the only reason i bought it.

When I was looking at getting my Ex, I was dead set on a diesel. That is until I talked to my coworkers who have diesel Ex's. They guided me in going with a V10 due to the fact that it was going to be my daily driver. I do not do a lot of towing but I would have the power if need be. The maintenance is a lot less out of the pocket than a diesel. Plus Ford is still producing the V10 engine. You fuel mileage while less is going be about the same cost due to the price of diesel fuel price's now. To say I was skeptical on the V10 is an understatement. I test drove my rig and fell in love with it. I would take a V10 over a diesel from here on out. Just my two penny's though

I have been looking for a second 7.3 ex as well and when the right deal comes along I will snap it up. But lately I have been seeing several decent looking v10's with 200k on the clock in the $5k and under range, Which got me to thinking, and that is always a dangerous situation. LoL
As far a 6.0 ex ? I would rather have a 5.4 gasser that was missing a spark plug then a 6.no

I search for about 4 months for a 7.3l I saw a lot of 6.0 and v10 and the prices were around $8000. The 7.3l were running 12k and up. I just kept looking and then I saw an ad for a 7.3l 4x4 limited for $8000. I went to see it and I was the 3rd person to look at it . It needed tires but othe than a dent from a poorly navigated turn at a gas station it looked good. I gave the guy a deposit and I was glad I did 2 hours later one of the other guys called and told him he wanted it. I almost didn't get it. I guess what I am trying to say is if you want a 7.3 then keep looking and you can find them. I looked everyday sometimes multiple times a day online. Don't compromise if you really want the 7.3. I love mine and it gets 17 mph and diesel here is $2.29 a gal and gas is $3.39 a gal, so cal.

To this thread, I am working on just getting on my 1st ex so I am not a good guy to speak on this, but once I do get one, I could see another in the future.

It had 208000 but diesels can go 500000+ with regular maintenance. I do most of my own work so costs aren't too bad. Oil changes brakes fuel filters trans services are all pretty easy with the help of this forum. A lot of great people on here have helped me without even knowing it. Thanks everyone!
