Two 1990 F-150 Fixes

Does anyone know how hard it is to repair the ignition linkage in the steering collum of a 1990 F-150? How about the rear end seal? Thanks.

Which seal on the rear end? I can think of at least three unique ones.

Honestly, its a royal pain in the *** because you have to tear the column all apart to do it but it can be done.

So it's an eight-hour job? Other than a wheel puller are there any special tools required?

depends on what is broken in the ignition switch components.
if it is just the key cylinder, that is about a 2 minute job. if it is the ignition actuator that is broke, that is roughly a 1.5 to 2 hour job. if it is a bad ignition switch, that is about 1/2 hour to swap.

a pinion seal replacement is not that bad. remove drive shaft, remove pinion yoke, remove seal, and drive new seal in. anywhere from 1/2 hour to 3 hours, depending on whether it wants to fight you or not.
