C 600- Now I'm ready!!

Finally, after over a year of agonizing and searching for a decent set of steps for my 1956 COE, the end is in sight!

I found many cabs with steps, but nobody was willing to sell just the steps. I found multiple cabs with good steps in the $3,000.00 range, but I didn't want to be in the business of parting them out just to get a set. (and then I would have another cab with no steps.

Terry Van Housen, of Terry's F-100 parts in Nebraska, agreed to make a fiberglass set, since several members had contacted me to let me know they were interested. They arrived today, and are they beautiful!! Heavier and sturdier than the steel ones, and ready to scuff & paint.

Kudos to Terry for a spectacular job.

What did they wind up costing? Now you have to find the rubber incerts for the top step.. I can see ordering up a set for my C600.

$300.00 each, and worth every penny. I think all you need is rubber material from Exotic Rubber Co, cut and fit it in the grooves, and heavy duty adhesive it in.

For something from unobtanium that is a very reasonable price.

1953-56 are the same. You can call Terry and ask him if he has any plans to do other years, since he makes cabs, hoods, and many other parts. If there is enough demand, I'm sure he will. Terry's F-100 Parts Stromsburg, NE 68666

Scott, I did post a bunch a pictures in my album if it still exists, and plan to do more, but a couple of surgeries this summer put me behind a bit. I sand blasted the 2003 E-350 chassis and rebuilt all the suspension and brakes, media blasted the cab and all parts, epoxy primed everything, and am ready to mount the cab on the chassis, after I figure out the steering.

I'm also working on a 56 C 600 and needed a firewall pad, I took my orginal to the shop that makes them for most everybody,Carpenter,SVF and others,I should be getting the proof in a week or so and then we'll final it,shortly after that Dennis Carpenter ( Vince ) will most likely be able to get them.

Thanks for relaying the firewall pad information. When you are satisfied, let all of us know your level of satisfaction, ease of installation, and some pictures. Also the price!

If it wasn't for sites like this, most of us would be fabricating in the Dark Ages, with no idea others were attempting to solve the same or similar problems. The folks here are extremely helpful, and will propel all of us, coe owners or not, forward to completion.
Regards, Mark.

I'll put a post up,most likely in the large truck thread,I check in on that one the most,It'll be at least a couple weeks before its done. I would guess it'll be priced about the same as the ones for the Pickups,I'll ask if there will be an option to order with out the holes as you won't want the heater and vacume valve holes.
Should you come up with anything for the steps let us know also,I'll look at the exotic rubber to see what it is, I've looked all over and zip, and there is a gent back east some where that left no stone unturned on the hunt for the rubber parts, theres not eve a set around to mold and copy form what I've seen.
I bought a parts truck for odds and ends for this truck and when I get through building this one I'll sell the parts truck.

I want to see if we can get a market together for some Coe fenders made. What do you think guys. Do we have enough demand for him to make them.

Wow, this hobby could use more people like Terry, people who don't rake hobbyists over the coals. $300 each sounds cheap and indeed worth every penny.
