Ford considering return of the Bronco (and ranger)

I know this has been an off and on rumor for a while, but this looks plausible.

That's probably one of the most promising articles on the idea I've seen in a while.
That would be very cool.

Does someone really want a new one? Who'd want to brush rash a new $50K 4x4 ...

Rebuild and older one and have at it

I guess it would depend on if it was made for smug soccer moms or real 4x4ers. If it's just another family friendly "look at me I have an suv" thing then I'll refrain.

I used to joke about the main reason I wouldn't want them to bring the Bronco back, is that not only do you have to be insulted by being asked if you have a "Bronco or Bronco II" by the parts guy.. now they will somehow have to ask if it's a "20xx Bronco" or something as well, ha.

I did appreciate this bit:

"The new Bronco will be a mid-sized SUV, like the Explorer. It will be built on a pickup frame, making it tougher than the Explorer.

The only way this makes sense is if it is more rugged and likely targeted at Jeep,”

I agree I'd never spend that much on a new 4x4, but that can be said for ANY new 4x4, which is why lots people rebuild an older one. But, you've gotta make new ones at some point. Might as well have an awesome Bronco in the mix. As long as it's done right.

Heh, I cringe every time I'm asked if it's a Full Sized or a Bronco II.
Just as much as when people with a Bronco II say they drive a Bronco. No you don't.

"Hey there, I need widget for a '93 Bronco..." Isn't that how you do it, or do you wait for the guy to ask you for every bit of information first before you tell them?

I do hate having to go through the "Is that a Bronco or a Bronco II?" question every single time. I said Bronco, didn't I?

Parts guy has to ask this question, otherwise he may sell the customer the wrong parts!

You'd be surprised on what the answer could be, because some customers were clueless, didn't know a Bronco from a Bronco II.

But not all were clueless.

Customer asked at the parts counter for 1985 Bronco parts. When I asked him if this was a Bronco or Bronco II, he replied he didn't own a "training" Bronco!

As much as it annoys me, I can't really blame the parts guys for that. I imagine nearly everyone with a Bronco II comes in and just says they have a Bronco, which forces them to ask.

Yup. Any time someone asks for parts for a Jeep Cherokee, I always ask "Grand Cherokee or regular Cherokee?" because many of them just say "Cherokee" when they actually have a Grand Cherokee. There were some years when the Ford Explorer and Ford Explorer Sport were two entirely different models. (AND there was also the Explorer Sport Trac, which is yet another different model. Some years all three models were available) When I ask the customer which one they have, most of the time they just say, "I don't know!" One customer tried blaming us for giving him the wrong parts because he insisted he had a regular Explorer when he actually had a Sport. He said it was a regular Explorer, so we gave him parts for a regular Explorer. It's not our fault you don't know the model of your own vehicle!

We haven't had any customers looking for parts for Transit or Transit Connect vans yet since they're too new, but I imagine I'm gonna have to start asking them to specify which one in a few years.

I actually thinks it's very plausible, what isn't is a F-150 based Bronco like the photoshop someone made of the Atlas (which was awesome). Anyway the Global Ranger is a great mid-size truck, if the Bronco is based of it, it could be quite good.

I strongly feel Ford should bring back the Ranger, of course as an all new/redesigned truck but of course still being a "Ranger". There's still a large market for that size of a truck and everyone just goes to Chevy and numerous import brands instead.
