SCT with a tow or trans-only tune is a good addition for any truck. No two run alike, so try a couple of programs to see if you like how it shifts better. A couple of trans-only programs or something like the 8k tow from Gearhead.

I'd put in an EGT gauge, and get the FICM flashed with Atlas 40 from PHP, then use a trans-only tune.

Or find someone in your area with a PHP FICM tuner and have them do it.

Good luck even finding that anywhere. It's been superseded by LV.

Per the others, put the truck is tow/haul and the truck will do the rest. All you have to do is tell it if you want to accelerate or stop.
Agreed. I also set the cruise at 60. If she should start to get warm on a grade, back down to 55 and manually put the tranny in to 3rd. She'll cool down quickly. Let the gears do the work not the engine. You can still use the cruise at 55 in 3rd. Since you don't know the vehicle history I would change all filters, OEM, only and new fluids. Your tranny has an external filter that needs changing. The internal screen only needs changing at rebuild time. Use only MC SP or LV rated tranny fluids.

Hauling beans for harvest is not comparable to pulling a trailer at highway speeds....

This was the same reason I bought my 05 back in 05. Truck is still all stock (except for studs) and it pulls my 2007 29-5E just great. Buy the ScanGauge II if you haven't already and enjoy the power!

I tow about the same weight your talking about, no problem for these trucks, if you find yourself on a grade and it seems like its lugging, step on the gas and knock it down a gear, raise the rpms it will push more air through the motor and lower your egt, the tow haul mode usually does this but not always, with this weight, ( lite)

Well wouldn't doing a trans upgrade disturb the trans? I mean I've never services a trans over 100k without prior knowledge of service history. I don't really feel like messing it up. So I'll just leave it alone and make sure she has plenty of fluid. I'm pretty confident in the 6.0 and not worried to use it as a truck. That engine needs weight behind it every now and then.

IMHO, no. It would mean fresh fluid and more capacity, with a better internal filter and a clean external filter. It's just the pan and internal filter. At the very least
don't add any additives/cleaners.

Good to know. So it's just changing the pan and filter? Any other parts I should upgrade while I'm in there?

If you're not going to service your transmission then you're just asking for trouble. Changing the oil and filter (up front not in the pan) is only adding life to it. The only reason to change the in pan filter is in case of a catastrophic failure. The 5R110 is designed for 250K miles of heavy service. Why waste it?
