Tell me if my idea is good, bad, or just dumb lol

So ive been tossing around this idea of adding some kind of auxiliary cooling to my truck. I had thought about getting some kind of tube/fin cooler in the 15x15 -20x20 size or somewhere in that size. Something that comes with a cooling fan mounted to it, or going to junk yard and finding an electric fan i could adapt to mount to it. Said fan would be on a switch i could turn on and off as i wished.

I had the thought of putting it underneath the truck somewhere and extending some lines to it, maybe from the output of the heater core. Then in kicking the idea around, i thought about mounting it under the fuel tank. Obviously not mounting it to the tank itself, but fabricating some kind of a bracket to hold it. My thinking on this is it obviously the extra cooling it would provide. But in winter, it would help to warm the fuel tank up.

Now all that said i havent even climbed under the truck yet to see of i could Mount something up there. But would that be a good idea, waste of time and resources, dangerous, or just dumb lol? And go

I can't figure out why you would want to do this. Are you having overheat problems?

No, not at all, truck runs great. I just like tinkering and doing little projects like this. Working on my truck is my Zen time so to speak, it makes me happy and keeps my mind off certain things. I have other projects to do on it long before i would get to something like this, but my mind is always in the planning stages.

In that case, that is not something I would do. Cooling system is designed to run a certain way with determined pressures etc. Not sure I would wa t to mess with that.

mounting it horizontally .. very little cooling offered..
second the distance of hoses/pipes... and damage from road objects... both hoses and radiator...

and possible of 6 plus gallons of coolant.. and the extra time to warm it up..
and the possibility of trapping air and no way of displacing it.

you would need to remove a lower hose of front radiator, run to rear one and then return....

heater hoses, the volume is to little to offer much help..

More capacity would be gained from setting up a extractor vent in the hood than doing additional radiators. Would benefit with colder ac as well. Down side is the weather into then engine compartment. I do this to Miatas to manage cooling for turbo. Improves downforce as well, so your truck will be turning like a F1. lol

what do you want to cool?

a. the engine coolant?
b. the engine oil?
c. the tranny fluid?
d. the power steering fluid?
e. the brake fluid?
f. the air coming into the engine?

cooling is a funny game animal to chase.....you can add cooling efficiency...but it can show up on indicators as more heat (e.g. adding water wetter transfers more heat from the engine metal to the coolant...so the metal is cooler...but the coolant is hotter since it has more BTU's of heat....so your temp gauge will not show a cooler engine. same is true with thinner vs thicker engine oil).
