Help me ID negative coil wire - 94 E250 - 4.9

Hi Guys,

I want to hook up a tach in my van so I'm trying to ID the negative coil wire.

I'm guessing it's the tan/yellow wire but I just wanted to be certain.

See attached photo -- can anyone confirm.

Thanks,

Joe

Per AutoZone's on-line Vehicle Repair Guide (basically, a reprint of Chilton's), the Tan/Yellow wire looks like it grounds the coil to and through the distributor.

The Red/Green wires are 12v. feed and a link to ignition capacitor.

Hey 95E150-'rustbucket',

Thanks so much for the info -- that's very helpful. That's what I suspected but I didn't have a schematic. I really do need to invest in a good shop manual. Thanks again !!!!!

Best regards,

Joe

shop manual substitute

Hey Joe:

Like I said in my other reply, I got the info from the AutoZone website:

AutoZone | Auto Parts & Accessories | Repair Guides & More

Click on Repair Help in the ribbon below the search box, click on the top link: Vehicle Repair Guides, enter the info for your vehicle: voila, a truncated version of Chilton's for your amusement.

Now, having had personal experience with the big C, I wouldn't put absolute faith in their info, but it is a good place to start with, until you acquire a real shop manual. Case in point---I couldn't find my DLC per their description of where it was supposed to be (again, thank you for that!)

And, they DO have wiring diagrams, hence my reply to your query.
